Casteel High School Orchestra Audition Information
We are so happy you are here, whether you are new to Casteel Orchestra, or if you are interested in auditioning for higher Orchestra. This page will tell you how to prepare for each orchestra audition. This year Casteel will have three orchestras. Below you can read about each group to determine for which group you wish to audition. Auditions will take place from 2:45 to 5:30 PM. Audition dates coming soon. |

Cadet OrchestraThe Cadet Orchestra is open to any 7th or 8th grader and does not require an audition. While it is our "entry" level orchestra some knowledge of your instrument is very helpful for success. The majority of students come into this orchestra with one or two years of elementary experience. The group typically begins the year with grade I music and finishes with grade 2. There are required concerts, festivals and activities for this group. There is a class fee to help cover the cost of music, festivals, instrumental and other orchestra expenses.

Concert OrchestraThe Concert Orchestra is open to students grades 7-12. An audition is required (see requirements below). There are required concerts, festivals and activities for this group. The group typically begins the year with grade 2.5 music and finishes with 3.5 to 4. There is a class fee to help cover costs of music, festivals, instrumental and other orchestra expenses.
Audition Requirements: Students will be asked to play major and melodic minor scales up to 4 sharps and 4 flats. Students may choose to play 2 or 3 octave scales with arpeggios. It is better to play a good 2 octave than a bad 3 octave. Students should prepare a 1 minute solo that best demonstrates musicianship, technique and general ability. Solos should be comparable to solos in Suzuki Book 3. Students must also prepare one etude. When you click on your instrument up to 5 etudes will be displayed. Chamber OrchestraThe Chamber Orchestra is open to students grades 7-12. An audition is required (see requirements below). There are required concerts, festivals and activities for this group. Any student who is of high school age is required to audition for the Regional Orchestra. The group typically begins the year with grade 3 music and finishes with 5 - 6. There is a class fee to help cover costs of music, festivals, uniform rental, instrumental and other orchestra expenses.
Audition Requirements: Students will be asked to play all major and melodic minor scales. Students may choose to play 3 octave scales with arpeggios. Students should prepare a 1 minute solo that best demonstrates musicianship, technique and general ability. Solos should be comparable to solos in Suzuki Book 5 or 6, or higher.
